Donna Greta is the top white wine of Cantina Frentana and it is the most refined and prestigious made of Pecorino grape. It is vinified in stainless steel tanks, with indigenous yeasts and fermentation on the skins for 7/8 days, following “elevage” on fine lees for a year and a final aging in bottle for at least six months before being put on the market.

Production and wine making

This wine is the result of a project that starts from the vineyard; it is in fact created from grapes of selected vineyards within the “Quality Vineyards” that Cantina Frentana started several years ago. The wine is made with prolonged maceration and with peak temperatures of around 30 degrees, in order to allow a complete extraction of color, tannins and aromatic precursors. After the wine is subjected to aging in fine oak barrels, for a period of 18 months, during which the wine evolves towards maturity.

Ruby red color with violet reflections; the nose has considerable complexity of aromas, including spicy and balsamic notes accompanying hints of ripe red fruit, blackberry jam, black cherries under alcohol and violet. These features make it an ideal companion for substantial dishes such as red meat, lamb, game, cheese; it is a sipping and after dinner wine, with dark chocolate flakes.

Production and wine making

Montepulciano 100%. This selection comes exclusively from selected vineyards in the best areas and followed throughout the year by the agronomists of the winery according to a strict protocol of cultivation. The vineyards are exposed plateau or in quadrants from west to south, on clayey soils rather deep and well drained thanks to the wealth of cobblestone. After de-stemming, fermentation on the skins is activated for about 10-15 days, then aged in oak barrels for at least 12 months and other six months.

Tavola disegno 2

Features of the wine

Very intense ruby red color, with aging it appears garnet; highlights smell remarkably complex, with aromas of black cherry, violet, vanilla and spicy notes. It is suggested to decant this wine half an hour before the service, especially if vintage, to allow the aromas to “open up.”

Tavola disegno 3

Food pairings

It goes perfectly with meat dishes of the Abruzzo’s cuisine, particularly the lamb, but also roast or braised veal and mature cheese.
